Iringa Highlands Reforestation
Learning Through Practice
Tanzania, 2020
Our first large-scale reforestation initiative in the Iringa region of Tanzania, covering two sites totaling 32 hectares and over 30,000 trees. This project served as a learning phase, testing species selection, planting techniques, and ecosystem restoration in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania.
Project Highlights:
-
First large-scale reforestation project, laying the foundation for future initiatives.
-
Use of various tree species providing key insights for improved reforestation models.
-
Lessons learned established groundwork for future projects.

Green Horizon
Future Projects
Tanzania, 2025/2030
Njombe Reforestation 5,000 ha
Scaling up reforestation efforts to restore forest cover, improve biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience.
Why these locations?
-
The Iringa’s restoration projects are a unique collaboration involving local communities, ecological scientists, and conservationists
-
Efforts will increase biodiversity, protect water sources, and boost climate resilience
-
Sustainable livelihoods are created through nurseries, tree planting, and long-term land stewardship
-
Farmers in the area will receive training in agroforestry and regenerative farming (permaculture), helping them adopt more sustainable land-use practices while supporting reforestation efforts
